Ashlea is one of the largest, privately owned, commercial landscaping companies in the UK. Established in 1910, it now has 100 employees working from its locations in Scotland, Yorkshire, Lancashire and the Midlands. It counts amongst its clients many large construction companies, including Kier Group, who are currently Main Contractors for the new Horizon 120 Business, Innovation and Logistics Park in Braintree, Essex.
This new development is set to become an exemplar business park, capable of providing in excess of 750,000 square feet of hi-tech, industrial, office and logistics space, set in extensively landscaped grounds overlooking the countryside. Ashlea are contracted by another of its clients working on the Horizon 120 Business Park, Balfour Beatty, to carry out landscape works and recently selected British Sugar TOPSOIL’s free-draining subsoil for planting lime, hornbeam and hazel trees on the business park, following the recommendation of soil science and landscape consultancy Tim O’Hare Associations LLP.
Landscape Supervisor Tony Blundell, who has worked for Ashlea for 30 years, said:
“It was important to select the optimum growing medium for the tree pits and TOPSOIL’s Free Draining SubSoil product is ideal. It is fully analysed and its high sand content ensures good drainage.”
30 tonnes were delivered to the Braintree site from British Sugar TOPSOIL’s Wissington factory near King’s Lynn on 8-wheeled tipper lorries between January and May 2021.
