Formed in 1964 and based in Deeping Gate, to the north of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Mumby Landscapes is a landscape design and construction company that operates in both the domestic and commercial markets. Proud of its record of delivering professional excellence, whatever the size of project, Mumby Landscapes insists on using quality landscaping products. Having first selected British Sugar TOPSOIL products in 2014, Mumby Landscapes has remained a valued customer ever since.
A recent project to renovate a private garden in Peterborough, which includes an extensive area of lawn, required 160 tonnes of TOPSOIL’s Landscape20 BS3882:2015-compliant general purpose topsoil, delivered to site over three days on rigid tipper lorries. The site was cleared, levelled and prepared prior to an excavator dumper placing the topsoil and a scraper attachment on the back of a tractor spreading it to a uniform depth. It was then raked and seeded using compact tractors and specialist landscaping equipment.
Company director Alison Mumby explains:
“This new garden area had been so overgrown it was agreed with the client to undertake the clearance and levelling and then take a view on the ground. Upon commencement it soon became apparent that there was little topsoil to work with. To ensure that the new grass has a good chance of success, it was agreed that the solution would be to import 160 tonnes of quality topsoil.
“We contacted British Sugar TOPSOIL, our preferred supplier, and they were able to facilitate deliveries of Landscape20 to commence the following day! With the works being carried out in early November, and with rain forecast, we knew we had just one chance and this speed of delivery enabled us to continue and get completion.
“Soil was spread out level over the area using our compact tractors and specialist landscaping equipment, obtaining excellent gradients due to our operator’s extensive knowledge of the task. Once the soil was spread it was fairly dry and the added benefit of it being stone-free meant that the soil was very easy to work with.
“We then followed with a fine raking operation and completed with grass seeding. The end result is something we are proud to put our name to and, most importantly to us, we have a very happy customer! Hopefully, if the weather stays warm, we may see some green in the next few days.
“We have used Landscape20 on a number of occasions for similar projects with equal success and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.”
