BALI - Beast in the East

The TOPSOIL team was sent to Wild Tracks Activity Park with one goal in mind and that was to bring back a second Beast in the East trophy to add to our growing collection of silverware.

With over 20 teams competing for the trophy which included businesses across the East Anglia region it was always going to be a challenge but nothing our team couldn’t achieve.

Therefore the TOPSOIL team included:

• Grace Townsend
• Darren Thorpe
• Tom Brown
• Joe Burgess

The day included a two-hour endurance race, where the winning team would be decided on distance travelled, combined with an off-road timed challenge.  After qualifying we were placed in the middle of the bunch and with Darren Thorpe leading us nothing but first would be disappointing, with Kim’s team talk on everyone’s mind we set of in emphatic fashion quickly securing third place. However after countless battles with other teams and many crashes later the TOPSOIL team placed seventh after the two hour endurance race.

In the afternoon the team took on the 4x4 challenge which included a challenging route which our driver for this challenge Tom Brown had to traverse around under the guidance of Darren Thorpe all while Grace Townsend and Joe Burgess were in the back of the vehicle with a bucket of water trying to spill as little water as possible. Unfortunately by the end of this challenge we had very little water left in the bucket however with that in mind we did get one of the fastest times around the course.

Overall it was a great event organised by BALI East Anglia the overall winner of the event was George Davis Turf with that in mind the TOPSOIL team will regroup and reflect on the event and come back stronger next year.
