My name is Robert Spikings and I currently run a small contracting company specialising in sports turf maintenance in Bedfordshire and surrounding counties.

Services that I provide to local clubs mainly include, aeration, overseeding, topdressing, fertilising, chemical spraying, scarification, and small construction projects/drainage.

After growing up on a farm from an early age I was always outside, be it either helping my dad in the garden cutting the grass or always wanting to go to work with my dad and help on the farm driving tractors and other machinery.

I was always cutting the grass at home and this is where I always enjoyed striping the lawn trying to make it look as good as it could be.

I always enjoyed playing sport, my favourite being rugby.

It was this passion of the outdoors, sport and farm machinery that led to me starting an apprenticeship with a local golf club and working towards my qualifications in Sports turf management.

From here I always enjoyed working on different sports surfaces, so I decided in 2003 to start my own business offering contract services to local sports clubs ranging from bowls, golf, rugby, and football.

I pride myself on working with lots of clubs to help try and create the best sports surface I can with the budgets these clubs have and offering my advice on ways to improve their sports surfaces even if it’s just through educating clubs on good working practices and doing the basics with whatever tools they have at their disposal.
