Cambourne Parish Council #GroundsWeek

Warren Bourne

Background:

I have worked for Cambourne Parish Council for 14 years having previously worked in agriculture. I started as a groundman and progressed after 3 years to head groundsman. The team has grown from 3 to 8.

Day to day jobs:

We look after 13 football pitches, 6 play parks, 6 tennis courts, 3G pitches, tennis courts and acres of verges in Cambourne. Every day is different, and it depends on the weather or which pitches are being used next.

Biggest challenge:

Our biggest challenges are people related. This includes vandalism and graffiti on the areas we maintain. We have to manage the expectations of the public as many areas are public areas which get used for dog walking. The weather Is always a challenge especially on the heavy clay soils we are working on

Morgan Groves

Background:

I am currently doing an NVQ Level 2 as an apprentice groundsman. I started this two-year college course and working at Cambourne in April 2021

Future aspirations:

In the future I would like to become a groundsman through further education and gaining more experience from the team at Cambourne.
