Newark Rugby Club #GroundsWeek

Background Info:

David Rhodes was born and raised on a farm and was destined to be a farmer. Although he could have made it as a footballer his father had other ideas for him. He started in the ground care industry by accident when Notts Country Football Club pitch got flooded in 2000. He was on the board of Notts County Football Club the time and with his farming background he was tasked with the job of fixing it. Since then, David has been taking care of Nottingham RFC and since has progressed to Southwell RFC, Newark RFC and beyond.

Typical Day:

There is no typical day for David because there is no ‘typical’ weather. Over time, he has built up a collection of various machinery but mowing, verti-draining and decompaction is his forte which keeps him more than busy. Staying in front of game makes life much easier, its hard work but very rewarding.

Biggest Challenges:

Game play disruption – from previous experiences only take grounds maintenance seriously when a game is looking to be cancelled and often too late.
