Background Info:

Tim Hales has worked for 25 years in the industry.  He trained in NVQ2 & 3 Horticulture Decorative and Sports Turf at Easton College.  Tim then went on to be an apprentice for NCS Group (Norse) where he worked for 1.5 years as Groundsman at Wymondham High School before he was promoted to foreman at the depot in Attleborough from 2001-2010.  In 2010 he became the Head Groundsman at City of Norwich School until 2017 whilst also working part time as Diss Golf Club.  Tim launched TH Groundcare in 2016.

Typical Day

There is no such time as a typical day!  Summer months mean long days starting at 6am through to 8-9pm sometimes. 

75% of the TH Groundcare work is football based with 20% Crickets and 5% other projects.  Work includes line marking, mowing lawns, aerating pitches, pitch inspections and general maintenance.

Biggest Challenges

The weather!  Being adaptable to what work can be carried out when.  Too wet and you can cause more damage to pitches.  Alternatively, when the weather is good making the most of the time you have to juggle projects.

Working to clubs’ budgets is also a challenge as well as breakdown and maintenance of machinery.
