Cranfield University- Microbial Biomass Report

This week, the TOPSOIL team visited Cranfield University. We met up with Senior Research Fellow of Soil Biology, Mark Pawlett and learnt about the variety of research the University does. They have recently carried out research to calculate the levels of microbial biomass in our 3 products: Landscape20, Hort Loam and Sports&Turf. Microbial biomass (bacteria and fungi) is a measure of the mass of the living component of soil organic matter. It’s important for transforming nutrients into forms that can be used by plants and help growth. This research will help us to better understand the way our soil is made up and how it impacts the environment.
